The Rosen JCC’s Early Childhood Learning Center provides children a balanced program with the best, most creative hands-on learning experiences. Children embark on an exploration of concepts, gain awareness and understanding of literacy and numeracy, and become more articulate, confident individuals. Your child will make life-long friendships and develop life skills such as focus, self control and critical thinking.

Educating young children is both an art and a science, and the JCC has been an expert in both for over 20 years – creating a safe, caring, nurturing educational environment for children to grow and develop. Our program is rich in Jewish culture and values, while embracing diversity and being inclusive of families of all backgrounds.

EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Our learning experiences for the children are inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. The Reggio Emilia approach originated in the town of Reggio Emilia in Italy.

This style of working with children focuses on the fact the each child comes to us ready to learn. There is a strong focus on social collaboration, investigation and communication. Children are capable, have a sense of wonder, and use language as a tool to investigate and explore.

The environment is recognized for its potential to inspire children. It is ever-changing and filled with natural light, order and open spaces where materials are considered for their purpose.

The teacher is both a listener and an observer of our children, and many of our in-depth projects originate from the interests of the children. Our curriculum is based on developmentally appropriate teaching techniques.

In our Reggio-inspired setting, we place an emphasis on carefully displaying and documenting each child’s thoughts and their progression of skills. This process is designed to show children’s learning through photographs, quotes, drawings, and transcripts of their thoughts and explanations.

The most well-known aspect of the Reggio Emilia approach to learning is the belief that children use many different ways to show their understanding and to express their thoughts and creativity. Through drawing and sculpting, movement and music, painting and pretend play, we nurture each one of these “languages.”
